Given the horrific murders committed over the weekend by one of our soldiers who was either deranged or simply evil, we have to ask once again exactly why we’re in Afghanistan, and why we plan to stay until 2014? The President finally Osama tracked down and killed and al Qaeda has been ejected from Afghanistan, so both of our major goals have been met.
Right now, the biggest problem we seem to have–and there is no end to the list of them–in Afghanistan is that the people there have absolutely no idea why we’re even there, other than to kill them, their family, and their neighbors and friends, and to destroy what little remains of their country.
About all we’re doing now is providing a target-rich environment for the shooters on both sides, with Afghan civilians providing the cannon fodder.
UPDATE: Gin and Tacos pretty much nails it.
